Job summary

Materion Corporation is seeking a Machine Operator II for Finishing/Conditioning on the 3rd shift (Sun–Fri, 10:30pm–7:00am) in Newton, MA. The role focuses on sanding and grinding surfaces to meet Class 1 specifications and assisting with rolling mill processes for tantalum and niobium products.

Responsibilities include setting up leveling equipment and shears, following safety practices, and using measuring tools. Requires basic math, mechanical aptitude, and 0-2 years in manufacturing.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 0-2 years of related production experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Basic math skills and ability to use basic measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers).
• Fork truck license and/or overhead crane license and LO/TO certification may be required.

Responsibilities

• Sands or grinds rolled materials to remove surface imperfections and meet product specs.
• Sets up and operates leveling equipment.
• Sets up and operates shears to ensure final product meets dimensional specs.
• Assists in handling material at rolling mills under supervision.
• Adheres to safety PPE requirements and environmental policies.
• Understands specifications and uses measuring instruments with assistance.
• Recognizes problems and seeks guidance to resolve.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
