Shaw Industries Ltd in Dalton, GA is seeking a Finishing Operator Assistant to support latex application processes from 3pm-11pm, Monday through Friday. You will assist the coater and froth operators, ensure proper equipment function, and maintain safety and quality during long shifts.

This hands-on role requires operating Latex Control System, Coater Console, and tracking forms, with duties including daily prep, calibration checks, and attendance adherence.

Qualifications

• Must be able to operate Latex Control System and Coater Console.
• Must stand for long periods and tolerate temperatures around 100 degrees.
• Must work 12-hour shifts, weekends and holidays as required.
• Manual documentation of cupweight, viscosity, and downtime as directed.

Job Title

Finishing Operator Assistant | Monday - Friday

Position Overview

This position is Monday- Friday 3pm-11pm.

Position Objective

Maintain correct and steady application of latex onto carpet, provide assistance to coater operator and froth operator.

Essential Duties

I. Latex Application

• Ensure carpet is feeding correctly into precoat direct applicator and Tillotson adhesive applicator, making sure to fix and report folded carpet to Coater Operator and Sew-on Operator.
• Identify style to be run using Sew-In Tracker screen.
• Reference spec sheet to identify correct application settings for the given style.
• Application (precoat and adhesive)
• Cupweight
• Puddle height (precoat and adhesive)
• Gap
• Enter correct settings into Latex Control System.
• Manually check gap with gages and adjust system if necessary.
• Visually inspect latex application and troubleshoot using Latex Control System as necessary. Notify supervisors of issues.
• Make sure end dams are set up correctly and latex is not getting on carpet selvage. Adjust end dams as necessary.
• Perform all previous steps again for each style change.
• Manually check cupweight and viscosity 4 times per shift and log in notebook. Also do this for any backing or weight check requested by supervisor.
• Work with department management to improve Latex Control System and latex application process.

II. Maintain Precoat Area

• Ensure proper operation of pre-coat pumps and blenders.
• Make sure soap, water, latex tank levels are sufficiently high.
• Clean out precoat filter baskets twice per week.
• Report any issues to supervisor.

III. Perform Coater Operator Duties

• The assistant operator must relieve the coater operator for breaks and absenteeism.
• The assistant operator will be held responsible for all duties of the coater operator during this time.

IV. Perform Froth Operator Duties

• The assistant operator must relieve the froth operator for breaks and slack time (when froth operator is changing out secondary backing).
• The assistant operator will be held responsible for all duties of the froth operator during this time.
• Conduct Secondary Application Weight Checks
• Conduct check at direction of supervisor.
• Place 3 two-part paper forms on secondary (after application) as secondary rises to the marriage roller.

VI. Attendance Policy

• Must adhere to the Corporate Attendance Policy
• Must notify the previous shift supervisor of an imminent absence 1 to 2 hours before shift change
• Must speak personally with supervisor detailing the reason for absence

VII. Work Schedule

• Must work all scheduled work hours for your shift
• Must be able to work weekends
• Must be able to work 12-hour shifts
• Must be able to work holidays as necessary

Non-essential Duties

• Daily Clean-Up
• Maintain a clean work area at all times. All areas should be picked up, swept up, or blown down at every opportunity.
• All equipment should be properly stored when not in use.
• Keep grease and oil off the floor.

II. Painting

• Clean and paint all areas assigned during downtime.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to:
