Job summary

Shaw Industries in Dalton, GA is seeking a Utility Relief II for a Sunday-Thursday, 11pm-7am shift. The role provides breaks for selected plant jobs and helps keep the coating area clean, ensuring production lines run smoothly.

You will fill in for Sew-On Operator, Sew-On Lift Truck Operator, Froth Operator, and Console Operator as needed, and you will follow the attendance and safety rules while assisting with scrap processing, machine cleaning, and housekeeping duties.

Qualifications

• Experience in a manufacturing/plant environment preferred.
• Ability to follow shift supervisor instructions for break times.
• Willingness to perform housekeeping and cleaning duties as part of duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide breaks for listed jobs (Sew-On Operator, Sew-On Lift Truck Operator, Froth Operator, Console Operator) as directed by supervision.
• Fill in for absenteeism and ensure coverage for assigned positions.
• Keep the coating area clean and manage scrap processing and related duties.
• Maintain work area cleanliness; sweep and organize coater area and surrounding zones.
• Adhere to attendance policies and communicate absences per protocol.
• Work the 11pm–7am shift Sunday through Thursday and comply with safety rules.

Essential Duties

• Froth Operator (JD 4673)
• When giving breaks, the Utility Relief will be responsible for all requirements of that job.
• Break times will be designated by the shift supervisor.

Essential Duties

I. Giving breaks and filling in for absenteeism for the following jobs as directed:

• Console Operator (JD 4672)
• When giving breaks, the Utility Relief will be responsible for all requirements of that job.
• Break times will be designated by the shift supervisor.

II. Cleaning work area

• Clean and sweep up coater twice per shift
• Area of responsibility starts at the South Docks and ends at the south end of the shearing machine.
• Scrap boxes will be made up at the start of each shift.
• Sew-On
• Selvage Baler
• Coater Console
• Complete necessary steps to process scrap through MRM. Weight scrap each shift if necessary.
• Blow out trim knives once per shift.
• Help clean oven screens for clean-up walk.
• Balers must be blown at end of each shift.
• Keep baler screens clean at all times.

III. Attendance Policy

• Must adhere to the Corporate Attendance Policy
• Must notify the previous shift supervisor of an imminent absence 1 to 2 hours before shift change
• Must speak personally with supervisor detailing the reason for absence

IV. Work Schedule

• Must work all scheduled work hours for your shift
• Must be able to work weekends
• Must be able to work 12-hour shifts
• Must be able to work holidays as necessary

Non-essential Duties

• Housekeeping
• Make up boxes for trash and recyclable material
• Keep strings cut off rollers
• Keep scrap picked up and placed in correct containers.
• Wipe down guard rails and machinery.

Painting

• Clean and paint all areas assigned during downtime.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to:

• Withstand temperatures of 100 degrees
• Climb onto the sew‑on table 40‑60 times per shift
• Pull carpet from the floats onto the sew‑on table
• Climb ladder into carpet floats (9 feet high)
• Get on and off lift trucks over 60 times per shift
