The role ensures GAAP-compliant financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders and supervises the AP/AR teams.

Job Summary

The Business Services Division (BSD) manages UEI’s financial and business operations, including transaction processing, reconciliations, fixed assets, financial statements, tax forms, investment oversight, and annual budget coordination. BSD also delivers comprehensive financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including the UEI Board of Directors, federal and state agencies, banking institutions, auditors, vendors, and creditors.

BSD is seeking an experienced accounting leader to direct the daily operations of UEI’s accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipts units within the Business Services Division. The Accounts Payable Supervisor and accounts receivable staff will report to the Financial Transaction Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Supervision: Manage the day-to-day operations of the accounts receivable and accounts payable teams; oversee staff selection, training, performance, and compliance with UEI policies.
• A/R & Billing Management: Direct accurate and timely monthly invoicing, collections, sales tax compliance, indirect cost calculations, and monthly/quarterly/year-end reviews of unbilled A/R in accordance with GAAP.
• A/P Operations & Process Optimization: Works with the Controller to review vendor payments and terms, maximize electronic disbursements (ACH), and automate billing and payable systems and procedures.
• Specialized Accounting & Compliance: Assist the Controller with GASB 87 lease accounting, review quarterly Federal Cash Transaction Reports, and ensure adherence to record retention policies.
• Financial Software Implementation: Leads implementation of a current and relevant software application, and partners with IT post implementation for system maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
• Demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, and supervising the functions and activities of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams. Demonstrated experience with automated processes.
• Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory skills or techniques needed to train and evaluate employees.
• Demonstrated experience in preparing a variety of financial statements and reports using computerized spreadsheet and database applications. Demonstrated ability to input, manipulate, and retrieve information on a computer and develop and design reports.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs and establish priorities. Demonstrated ability to work independently and plan day-to-day activities.
• Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of accounting and auditing, financial analysis, research, and procedures.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in mathematics, statistics, and data processing methods, equipment, and practices as they relate to computerized accounting systems.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of financial statements and reports; prepare, review, and analyze information; talk to and interview others to obtain or exchange information; and operate a computer and applicable software packages.
• Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check. Must continue to meet the established standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Property Management or new lease accounting standards.

This is a full-time, exempt from overtime, benefited position, covered under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System. Continued employment in this position is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc.
