Indiana Tech is seeking a forward-thinking Financial Systems Accountant to join our finance team on the Fort Wayne campus.

The Financial Systems Accountant combines expertise in accounting, financial reporting, data analytics, and technology to support and enhance the university's financial operations. This position works closely with other university departments, leadership, and external vendors to ensure financial systems accurately support accounting transactions, financial processes, financial reporting, internal controls, and data governance. The position is responsible for maintaining and optimizing financial applications/systems, developing automated reports and dashboards, improving business processes through technology solutions, and ensuring the integrity and reliability of financial data across multiple systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting, Financial Reporting & Data Analytics

• Perform and support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
• Review financial data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards and university policies.
• Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
• Assists with budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Support audit requests by providing documentation, data analyses, and system process information.
• Provide financial data for external surveys and reports.
• Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that support cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and general ledger activities and monitor financial performance and KPIs.
• Analyze large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
• Maintain internal database files and tables and develop custom reports/queries to meet the needs of the finance department and university leadership.
• Collaborate with departments to ensure accurate financial coding and reporting.
• Monitor system processes that impact accounting transactions and recommend improvements when issues are identified.
• Ensure financial system configurations support proper accounting treatment and reporting requirements.

Systems Administration & Automation

• Serve as a subject matter expert and collaborate with university departments to integrate and automate financial systems.
• Manage internal and external system upgrades, integrations, configurations, user permissions, and data integrity across platforms.
• Ensure systems comply with financial regulations and internal controls. Monitor system performance and conduct regular audits.
• Troubleshoot system issues and work with IT, university departments, and vendors to resolve problems.
• Participate in system and process re-engineering efforts and automation.

Process Improvement & Optimization

• Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and workflows to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
• Develop reconciliation processes to ensure reporting consistency.
• Utilize tools such as Power Query, Power BI, Power Automate, Vena, and other technologies to improve operational efficiency.
• Conduct assessment of software and hardware needs and design new or modified systems to meet changing demands. Evaluate the impact of changes and recommend enhancements.
• Maintain documentation of procedures and develop training materials for system users and finance staff.
• Provide training and support to finance staff and departmental users on system functionality and best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Power Query, pivot tables, lookups).
• Hands‑on experience and knowledge with ERP, financial reporting, and automation platforms or AI agents (e.g., Jenzabar, Vena, Supervity, Microsoft 365).
• Broad knowledge of techniques in collecting data, analyzing information, generating reports, or other data querying languages.
• Innovative with an eagerness to learn new processes and naturally curious.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills with intense attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Knowledge of financial internal controls and compliance frameworks.
• Self‑starter and ability to work within a team, independently, and collaboratively across the university

Experience

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in a data or systems‑focused role.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in a standard office environment on university premises, with occasional travel. Some evening and weekend work may be required and/or necessary. Physical presence on campus during scheduled working hours is an essential function of this position. The employee must be able to consistently report to work on university premises, participate in in‑person and remote meetings and activities, and perform duties requiring on‑site access to university facilities, systems, records, and resources.
