Job summary

Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is seeking an Accounts Payable Financial Services Technician to join the Finance team. The role processes invoices, maintains vendor records, and supports year-end closing while ensuring accurate financial documentation.

The position reports to the Finance department and operates on a Monday–Friday schedule in our Hampton, VA location. The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of accounts payable experience with automated accounting systems and

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable transactions with invoices, vouchers, and supporting docs.
• Enter, verify, and prepare payments; print and reconcile vendor accounts.
• Research and resolve unpaid invoices and payment discrepancies.
• Communicate with vendors and staff to answer AP questions.
• Maintain AP database, set up vendors, update W-9 information.
• Assist with year-end closing and record-keeping for new fiscal year.
• Process miscellaneous financial transactions as needed.
• Support credentialing and procurement admin tasks, track contracts.
• Organize electronic and paper records; ensure documentation is complete.
• Coordinate with staff, vendors, and MCOs to obtain information.

Accounts Payable Financial Services Technician

Annual Salary: $34,594

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is seeking an Accounts Payable Financial Services Technician to join our Finance team. This position supports daily accounts payable, financial services, vendor management, and accounting operations by processing invoices, maintaining accurate financial records, resolving payment issues, and supporting fiscal year-end activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• One (1) year of Accounts Payable experience using an automated computer-based accounting or financial management system.

What You'll Do

• Process accounts payable transactions, including reviewing invoices, vouchers, requisitions, and supporting documentation for accuracy.
• Enter, verify, and proof accounting information and prepare payments for processing.
• Print and distribute checks and reconcile vendor accounts.
• Research and resolve unpaid invoices, vendor statements, payment discrepancies, and account issues.
• Communicate with vendors and agency staff to resolve accounts payable questions and payment concerns.
• Maintain the Accounts Payable database, including setting up new vendors and updating W-9 information.
• Maintain accurate financial records, files, and related documentation.
• Assist with fiscal year-end closing activities, including preparing Accounts Payable records for storage and establishing records for the new fiscal year.
• Process miscellaneous financial and fiscal transactions as needed.
• Assist with credentialing and procurement administrative functions, including tracking applications, contracts, and workers' compensation files.
• Organize and maintain electronic and paper records and documentation.
• Communicate with staff, vendors, and Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to obtain information and resolve issues.
