Job summary

HRA of New Britain, Inc. is seeking a Financial Services Coordinator to implement programs that help families achieve financial stability. You will support the VITA program, recruit volunteers, oversee sites, and monitor performance while building partnerships with community organizations.

The role requires an Associate's degree or 3+ years of related experience, strong communication, and data management skills. Availability for some evenings/weekends is expected.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $22.00 To $23.00 Hourly

Description:

The Financial Services Coordinator will be responsible for implementing programs to help individuals and families move toward financial stability and achieve financial goals. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting the Program Manager with the implementation and management of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program by recruiting new partners; recruiting and training volunteers; oversight of local free tax preparation locations; monitoring program performance; and report generation. In addition, the Financial Services Coordinator is responsible for building the capacity to provide services by collaborating with partners through marketing and networking. The Financial Services Coordinator will also be responsible for data compliance across the department.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (others may be assigned based upon program needs):

  • Assist the Program Manager with the operation and management of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
  • Provide supervision and oversight for VITA volunteers.
  • Monitor adherence to the IRS Volunteer Standards of Conduct and Quality Site Requirements.
  • Ensure all volunteers are certified to prepare tax returns at the appropriate levels of certification and follow all site operating procedures.
  • Act as a liaison between volunteers, VITA sites, relevant sponsors, stakeholders and/or partners.
  • Build and strengthen existing community relationships in support of VITA and other Financial Services programs.
  • Work in coordination with collaborating agencies on various program components; share responsibility for operationalizing collaborative agreements.
  • Coordinate with internal staff and external partners to provide a continuum of service.
  • Use CAPTAIN and/or other data management systems, to document and reflect client outcomes, as well as report to funders as needed.
  • Develop, plan and conduct outreach/engagement activities specific to VITA, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), ACEs and other department programs.
  • In consultation with the Program Manager and the Financial Opportunity Center design team, design and facilitate group activities and/.or workshops; determine appropriate curricula and/or instructional methods for target audience.
  • Assist coordinators with VITA training, site coordination and/or general support.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Associate’s Degree in Business, Accounting or other related field, OR over three years of related experience in lieu of degree. Experience working with Financial Stability or other financial service focused programs is desired.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work with individuals from varying socio-economic levels
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work as needed.
  • Ability to work some weekend and evening hours as requested.
  • Must be able to write clearly and concisely; read and interpret data using basic statistical principles; perform budgeting and mathematical functions; and analyses.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of software applications.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal social service resources.
  • Must possess personal qualities necessary to relate to clients and staff.
  • Must have strong documentation skills.
  • Able to operate office equipment (e.g. computers, fax, photocopy, postage machines etc.).

Physical Requirements:

  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.

Language Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English, Spanish and/or Polish (Preferred)
