Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Financial Reporting Coordinator in the Financial Management Services Department, Accounting and Financial Reporting Division. The team safeguards assets, ensures GAAP compliance, and prepares financial statements and the annual financial report for internal and external audiences.

The role supervises two senior analysts, coordinates the annual external audit, and assists with CAFR preparation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field with coursework.
  • Four (4) years accounting/auditing experience.
  • Two (2) years of financial reporting responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises two Senior Financial Reporting Analysts and assigns work.
  • Coordinates annual independent audit; supports external auditors.
  • Prepares City CAFR and GAAP/compliance documentation.
  • Develops year-end close policies and procedures.
  • Acts as finance subject matter expert on GAAP/GASB and reporting.
  • Manages cross-department accounting/financial projects.

A Financial Reporting Coordinator position is available with the City of Fort Worth (Financial Management Services Dept./Accounting and Financial Reporting Division). The Accounting and Financial Reporting Division safeguards the City's assets by accounting for all capital assets owned by the City, ensuring proper procedures are followed in accordance with each grant agreement and ensuring that all City financial transactions have been accounted for accurately and timely, through accurate monitoring, accounting, and reporting, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The division is also responsible for the internal and external publication of financial information related to the activities of the City of Fort Worth (e.g., the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and the Monthly Financial Report).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting
  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting/auditing
  • Two (2) years of financial reporting responsibility
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience producing an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and coordinating an independent external audit at a local government.
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Experience with PeopleSoft ERP software
  • Two years of administrative and supervisory experience
The Financial Reporting Coordinator job responsibilities include:
  • Supervises staff of two (2) Sr Financial Reporting Analysts, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
  • Assists with researching, documenting, and implementing conclusions regarding technical accounting treatment for non-routine transactions and new accounting pronouncements.
  • Coordinates the annual independent audit of the City’s financial statements; provides support to external auditors; and develops and communicates timelines for completion of all items required by external auditors for year-end audit.
  • Assists in the preparation of the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) award program requirements.
  • Assists with establishing and documenting policies and procedures for annual year-end close and financial audit; ensures proper compliance with established policies and procedures; and analyzes, recommends, and implements necessary improvements to annual year-end policies and regulations.
  • Serves as the Finance Department’s subject matter expert and advisor with respect to accounting and reporting/disclosure issues (GAAP, GASB, etc.) and implementation of financial software; interprets related policies, procedures, and guidelines; and documents, analyzes, and reports financial-related trends.
  • Coordinates assigned accounting/financial projects within the department among different divisions and externally among other departments and/or outside agencies; ensures cooperation of all relevant parties; ensures adherence to project schedules and timelines; and prepares related staff reports and other necessary correspondence or presentations.
