Job description

The FP&A Manager is an important role in Homer City Redevelopment’s growing Finance team. This role will own budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis for a multi-GW combined cycle gas turbine power plant project, working with internal and external stakeholders. A core part of the role is serving as the FP&A owner for the project’s U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) loan, where accurate forecasting, disciplined reporting and compliance with DOE requirements are critical to the company’s success. It is a unique opportunity to work at an early-stage startup that will rapidly grow into an operator of a major power plant capable of generating billions of dollars of revenue.

Reporting to the Senior Director of FP&A, you will build a lean but highly effective FP&A function from the ground up. As a rapidly growing company with a major construction project already underway, we need someone capable of, and experienced in, blending the rigor of large-dollar project finance with the agile, partnership-heavy culture of hyperscale tech. As a lean company you will need to bring the capacity and the desire to work across all levels – from hands-on modeling and analysis, to process design and implementation, systems enhancement and management reporting – with high energy and a positive attitude.

You will provide the forward-looking financial insight that guides the company’s decisions as it moves through distinct stages in its lifecycle, from supporting a multi-billion dollar construction project through to operating a large power plant. You will establish FP&A as a trusted partner to Accounting, the other Finance teams, project leaders and the wider company.

Where you will work

The FP&A Manager is full-time, and is a 100% in-person role, based in the company’s downtown Pittsburgh office.

The role will require occasional travel to the power plant site in Homer City, PA and the company’s office in nearby Blairsville, PA with infrequent travel to other locations.

Key Responsibilities
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead the annual budget process and maintain rolling forecasts, including 13-week cash forecasts, partnering with department heads and the executive team
  • Build and maintain integrated financial models (P&L, balance sheet and cash flow) that support the long-range plan, funding decisions and Board materials
  • Forecast DOE loan drawdowns, interest and debt service within the 13-week cash forecast, annual budget and long-range plan, and keep the funding plan aligned with construction progress
  • Track construction budgets against actuals, including cost-to-complete, change orders and contingency, working with Construction, Engineering and Procurement
  • Build the operating budget for the transition from construction to commercial operation, including fuel, O&M and revenue assumptions
Financial Analysis & Reporting
  • Deliver monthly budget-to-actual variance analysis and management reporting for the CFO, executive team and Board, with clear commentary on drivers and risks
  • Serve as the FP&A lead for the DOE loan, including drawdown forecasting and requisition support, covenant and compliance monitoring, and the budget, forecast and reporting information DOE and its advisors require
  • Support funding requests, debt drawdowns, covenant monitoring and lender reporting, with DOE loan requirements a top priority, alongside Accounting, Treasury and Legal
  • Evaluate business cases and commercial arrangements (e.g. PPAs, fuel and O&M contracts), including scenario and sensitivity analysis
  • Be the ‘go to’ person for questions about the company’s budget, forecast and financial performance
Planning Process & Controls
  • Design and document scalable budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes, including an FP&A calendar aligned with the accounting close and Board meetings
  • Establish model governance, including version control, documented assumptions and peer review
  • Proactively identify financial risks and opportunities, and support auditors, lenders and their advisors with budget and forecast information
Business Partnering
  • Act as finance business partner to leaders across Construction, Operations, Legal and Commercial, helping budget owners manage to their budgets
  • Communicate financial insight clearly to non-finance audiences, from site teams to the Board
Systems & Tools
  • Own FP&A tools and processes, leveraging NetSuite ERP to automate data extraction and reporting
  • Minimize manual, repetitive work, especially where it adds little value
  • Contribute to the Finance team’s overall systems plan
Requirements
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance or a similar role, including leading budgeting and forecasting processes (or equivalent experience in a Big 4 firm or investment bank)
  • Strong experience with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) loan financing – for example the Loan Programs Office, DOE-supported funding, drawdown and requisition processes, covenant compliance, or DOE program reporting – is highly valued and will be a key differentiator for this role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
  • Other qualifications, such as MBA, CPA or CFA would be advantageous but are not necessary
  • Prior experience in a power generation company, public utility or developer of gas fired power stations would be advantageous, but is not required
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Paid time off (PTO) and holidays
  • Professional development support and tuition assistance
