Position Overview

This role will play an important part in building the company’s accounting function for a multi-GW combined cycle gas turbine power plant project. It is a unique opportunity to work at an early-stage startup that will rapidly grow into an operator of a major power plant capable of generating billions of dollars of revenue.

The Accounting Manager will support the company’s accounting and financial reporting activities, with a focus on technical accounting, fixed asset accounting, revenue recognition, debt accounting, and the development of reliable close and reporting processes. This is an opportunity for an accounting professional with a Big Four foundation and a desire to apply that experience in an industry environment. The successful candidate will combine strong U.S. GAAP knowledge with practical accounting experience and the ability to work collaboratively across finance, legal, project, and operational teams.

Where you will work

The Accounting Manager role is full-time, and is a 100% in-person role, based in the company’s downtown Pittsburgh office.

The role will require occasional travel to the power plant site in Homer City, PA and the company’s office in nearby Blairsville, PA with infrequent travel to other locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including account reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, and financial statement support.
  • Apply U.S. GAAP to complex accounting matters and prepare clear, well-supported accounting analyses and memoranda.
  • Evaluate project expenditures and supporting documentation to determine appropriate capitalization treatment under established company policies.
  • Analyze customer and other commercial agreements and apply ASC 606, Revenue from Contracts with Customers, including contract review, performance obligations, transaction price, and revenue recognition conclusions.
  • Assist with accounting for debt and financing arrangements, including analysis of complex debt instruments, embedded features, issuance costs, discounts and premiums, and related disclosures, as applicable.
  • Support treasury and cash management activities, including monitoring cash balances and liquidity needs, preparing cash flow forecasts, and coordinating funding requirements and banking activities.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial reporting deliverables.
  • Oversee intercompany transactions and accounting across multiple legal entities, including intercompany reconciliations, settlements, and consolidation support, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and respond to audit requests in a timely and organized manner.
  • Work with external tax providers to support tax compliance, tax filings, and related reporting requirements, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of information and resolution of tax-related matters.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to assess the accounting implications of contracts, transactions, and business initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, reporting processes, and close efficiency.
