The FP&A Senior Manager is a key member of Vertex's Financial Planning & Analysis organization, providing strategic financial direction to key functional finance leaders. Supporting the Research & Development (R&D) organization, this role involves defining and executing short-term and long-term goals, identifying key value drivers, and monitoring Business KPIs. The position is vital for strategic decision-making, influencing investments, cost savings, and risk mitigation globally.

This role is based in our Boston, MA office, located in the Seaport area, with a hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office and 2 days remote weekly.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

• Lead the consolidated financial planning process for R&D (budget, forecast, long-range plan), providing forward-looking insights, scenario development, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Manage the financial performance process for R&D, including target setting, budget vs. actual analysis, and monthly forecasting, focusing on key drivers and outcome ranges.
• Prepare and present financial reports and KPIs to senior management, highlighting trends and insights.
• Conduct portfolio-level reviews to identify risks, opportunities, and resource allocation priorities.
• Provide strategic financial insights to R&D finance leaders, defining and supporting achievement of short-term and long-term goals.
• Offer decision support by identifying investment opportunities, cost-saving measures, and risk mitigation strategies globally.
• Lead and develop a team of Finance Business Partners, ensuring aligned financial analysis and continuous staff development.
• Collaborate with Corporate FP&A, Accounting, HR, and other teams to ensure seamless service delivery and clear ownership of deliverables.
• Maintain financial integrity, corporate governance, and compliance across responsibilities.

Knowledge And Skills

• Strong analytical skills in portfolio analysis, valuation, ROI/ROIC, and complex business questions.
• Proven ability to lead change in a developing business environment, managing processes across multiple teams and time zones.
• Expertise in MS Office, Hyperion, and financial software applications.
• Excellent communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills for engagement with senior management and peers.
• Deep understanding of accounting, finance principles, financial modeling, and valuation techniques.

Education And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA preferred.
• 8+ years in finance or accounting, with R&D finance experience preferred.
• Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is highly desirable.

Pay Range

$131,200 - $196,800
