Job summary

Centra Behavioral Health Hospital is opening a brand-new behavioral health facility in Lynchburg, VA. We are seeking a Financial Counselor to handle patient accounts, verify eligibility, and pursue co-pays and deductibles in a timely manner.

You will participate in determining benefits, assist uninsured patients with Medicaid referrals, and work with charity qualification documentation while supporting a compassionate care environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience in healthcare collections (inpatient and/or outpatient) or comparable healthcare business office setting.
• Proficient with computer applications; strong math and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate account and billing information to required departments within timelines.
• Implement collection measures for uncollected co-pays, deductibles and coinsurance.
• Serve as contact regarding benefit determination within timelines.
• Maintain self-pay/self-pay after insurance work list; ensure daily processing and proper documentation.

Centra Behavioral Health Hospital is a brand-new 72 bed behavioral health facility opening in 2026.We offer high-quality, compassionate care for a wide variety of patients in need. Our teams provide evidence-based, transformational care for a broad range of mental health concerns in a compassionate, comfortable environment.

How you'll contribute

A Financial Counselor who excels in this role:

• Provides accurate account and billing information to required departments within timelines specified.
• Ensures the effective implementation of collection measures for uncollected co-pays, deductibles and coinsurance.
• Serves as additional point of contact regarding benefit determination within departmental timelines.
• Maintains self-pay/ self-pay after insurance work list and ensures accounts are worked daily and documents appropriately within the software system.
• Provides required follow-up on all patient accounts with the goal of collecting any patient co-pays, deductibles and coinsurance at the time of services rendered.
• Ensures that all admitted patient accounts have been verified, corrected, and completed within 24 hours of admission.
• Gathers and collects all pertinent financial information in order to accurately assess the patient's information.
• Identifies candidates eligible for charity and submits charity requests with the appropriate financial documentation.
• Works with uninsured patients to identify potential Medicaid eligibility and makes appropriate referrals to internal or external agencies.

What we're looking for

Applicants should possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Education: Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in healthcare collections, preferably inpatient and outpatient, or a related field, or any combination of education, training, or experience in health care business office setting preferred.
• Must be proficient in computer applications and possess problem-solving and math skills.
