Baylor Scott & White Orthopedic and Spine Hospital – Arlington in Texas is hiring a Full Time Financial Counselor to support surgical patients with estimated patient responsibility. The role involves reviewing files, verifying benefits, and documenting information in the PAS system.

You will determine appropriate payment arrangements, communicate balances to patients, and coordinate with the care team to ensure smooth financial clearance before procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with Excel and data entry.
• Familiarity with privacy/confidentiality in healthcare.
• Experience using Electronic Health Record systems.
• ICD-10 and CPT knowledge.
• Understanding insurance primacy rules.

Responsibilities

• Provide financial counseling for estimated patient responsibility for surgical patients.
• Review information from the patient’s file and verify benefits.
• Review and process financial assistance applications.
• Determine funds to collect upon admission and set payment plans per policy.
• Notify patients of amounts due and document in PAS system.
• Maintain positive relationships with staff and ensure required authorizations are complete.

Financial Counselor at Baylor Scott & White Orthopedic and Spine Hospital – Arlington:

• Provides Financial counseling for estimated patient responsibility on surgical patients for Baylor Scott & White Orthopedic and Spine Hospital. Other duties may be assigned:
• Review information from the patient’s file on system.
• Verify insurance benefits
• Review financial assistance applications
• Determine what funds to collect upon admission and established suitable payment arrangements according to policy.
• Notify patients of monies due and document in PAS system.
• Notate PAS system with benefits and financial information.
• Maintaining positive relationships with other personnel.
• Review authorization requirements, ensuring all authorizations are complete prior to services being rendered.
• Answer incoming patient calls.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, and Business Office Manager.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience:

• Ability to work well in excel and manage data entries.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to understand the need for confidentiality in the work assigned to you.
• Ability to utilize Electronic Heath Care Record system for documentation to patients account/record.
• ICD10 and CPT knowledge
• Complete understanding of insurance primacy rules.
