Job summary

Jobtailor in Fresno, CA is seeking a Revenue Cycle Specialist to educate patients on financial responsibility and to verify pre-service financial clearance. You will coordinate with clinical and administrative teams to reduce claim denials while ensuring HIPAA compliance and accurate revenue cycle processes.

You will navigate EMR, Registration/PMS, and VOB systems with empathy and professionalism, focusing on oncology billing and patient financial counseling.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years in a healthcare business office or revenue cycle role preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance benefits and patient Financial Assistance Programs.
  • Strong understanding of oncology treatment pathways.
  • Familiarity with high-cost oncology drugs, infusion services and specialty billing.
  • Experience with billing systems and interpreting EOBs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Review daily schedules to identify patients requiring financial clearance
  • Educate patients on expected financial responsibility, including deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximums
  • Communicate treatment costs and payment expectations prior to services
  • Assist patients in understanding financial obligations before services
  • Evaluate financial risks associated with scheduled services, including coverage limitations, medical necessity concerns, frequency limitations, and out-of-network benefits and coverages
  • Identify accounts that may result in patient balances or denied claims
  • Escalate high-risk accounts to leadership or appropriate teams
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to reduce claim denials
  • Support resolution of pre-service financial issues impacting reimbursement
  • Identify trends related to financial risk and patient responsibility
  • Maintain accurate, compliant documentation of financial discussions
  • Protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards
  • Support accurate and timely revenue cycle processes
  • Provide exceptional customer service with empathy, professionalism, and respect
  • Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Support additional duties and projects as assigned

Requirements
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a healthcare business office or revenue cycle role preferred
  • Strong knowledge of insurance and benefits and patient Financial Assistance Programs
  • Strong understanding of oncology treatment pathways
  • Familiarity with high-cost oncology drugs, infusion services and specialty pharmacy billing preferred
  • Working knowledge of diagnosis driven financial impact preferred
  • Experience with billing systems and interpreting EOBs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to navigate multiple systems, including EMR, Registration/PMS systems, and VOB systems
  • Experience verifying authorization and financial clearance with minimal direction
  • Critical thinking and ability to adapt to process and workflow changes
  • Experience in oncology or specialty care preferred
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, managed care concepts and fee structures
  • Background in financial counseling or patient-facing financial roles
