- Perform pre-registration and registration processes
- Partner with clinical care teams to determine initial authorizations based on predicted treatment plans
- Obtain insurance benefit information for inpatient and outpatient services, prescription drugs, and travel and housing when necessary
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain authorizations and notifications throughout treatment
- Obtain required signatures and documentation
- Document insurance and authorization information accurately in patient records
- Monitor and update insurance data, authorizations, preferred providers and treatment-plan changes
- Provide financial counseling to patients and families throughout treatment
- Explain benefits, insurance, billing issues, company financial policies and payment arrangements
- Assist with insurance coverage gaps through alternative funding options
- Provide financial advocacy and help uninsured patients access funding resources
- Maintain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and other program benefits and criteria
- Liaise among patients, the PFS department and payers to resolve issues and improve accounts receivable performance
- Calculate patient liability and collect deposits and co-payments
- May provide leadership and training to financial team members
- Work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while prioritizing patient care and reimbursement needs
- Serve as the primary contact for financial aspects of Oncology care and collaborate with internal and external customers
Requirements
- Associate's Degree with a focus in social work, healthcare administration or finance
- Minimum of three years of diversified experience in a hospital Patient Registration/Financial Services setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Understanding of common insurance and payor types, authorization requirements and alternative financial resources
- Highly developed interpersonal, communications and human relations skills
- Accurate and efficient keyboarding skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Flexibility in responding to multiple demands
- Employees working in specified behavioral health settings serving children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment
- An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire
