Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Patient Financial Counselor to guide patients through their financial journey from admission to post-discharge, review benefits, estimate out-of-pocket costs, and arrange payments in compliance with regulations.

The role requires strong revenue-cycle knowledge, collaboration with case management and social workers, and a proactive approach to education and problem solving to enhance patient experience and financial performance.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of job experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent Experience.
  • Experience in multiple areas of the revenue cycle is preferred, including financial counseling, customer service, public benefits/Medicaid advocacy/eligibility, state case/eligibility specialist, or other applicable roles.
  • Prior Patient Access or physician-based experience is a plus.
  • Must reside and be authorized to work within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Guide patients through their financial journey from admission through post-discharge.
  • Review benefits and estimate out-of-pocket costs.
  • Facilitate payment arrangements and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Screen patients for Medicaid and/or financial assistance eligibility.
  • Calculate patient liability estimates and collect payments at point of service.
  • Address billing and coverage inquiries and maintain accurate account documentation.
  • Provide education and problem resolution to improve patient experience and financial performance.
  • Monitor trends, prepare operational reports, and support process improvement initiatives.
  • Meet productivity and department KPIs.
  • Triage patient financial questions and ensure resolution while in-house.
  • Connect face-to-face with patients throughout their care journey.
  • Escalate identified financial process gaps.
  • Communicate and collaborate with case management, social workers, physician liaisons, and other personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
