Our client in the mining services sector, based in Welkom, Free State, ZA, seeks an experienced Financial Controller to oversee all financial and accounting operations, ensuring IFRS-compliant reporting and strong internal controls. This senior role requires leadership to drive profitability and manage risk.

The ideal candidate will have a CA(SA)/CIMA/ACCA qualification, 8+ years of progressive accounting experience including 3+ years in a controller role, and proficiency with Sage or SAP.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic and growing entity within the mining services sector in Welkom, Free State , is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller. This is a senior position with broad responsibility for overseeing all financial and accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, and providing strategic financial guidance. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the financial future of the company, managing risk, and driving profitability. This position requires full-time commitment and presence in Welkom, Free State, ZA , to effectively lead the finance team and engage with key stakeholders. The role is pivotal for maintaining financial compliance and supporting growth initiatives in a challenging industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
• Prepare and present timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
• Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and safeguard assets.
• Manage budgeting and forecasting processes, providing variance analysis and strategic insights to senior management.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations, coordinating with external tax advisors.
• Lead and mentor the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy and accountability.
• Manage relationships with banks, auditors, and other financial institutions.
• Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for business improvement.
• Oversee cash management and treasury functions to ensure adequate liquidity.
• Support strategic decision-making by providing robust financial data and recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• A professional accounting qualification (CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA) is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, with at least 3 years in a controller or similar senior role.
• Proven experience in financial reporting, internal controls, and audit management.
• In-depth knowledge of IFRS and South African tax legislation.
• Experience in the mining or related industrial sector is a significant advantage.
• Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP) and advanced Excel skills.
