Job summary

Strata Landscape Services is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead a growing accounting team and refine processes during a period of rapid expansion in Southern California. The role oversees month-end close, GAAP reporting, and cross-branch financial controls while supporting acquisitions and integration.

You will manage a distributed team across branches, drive budgeting and cash forecasting, and partner with executives and PE sponsors to deliver accurate financial data for decision-making.

Qualifications

  • CPA with US GAAP financial reporting expertise.
  • 10+ years of accounting experience, with 2+ years of Controller experience.
  • Private equity-backed or acquisition-driven company experience strongly preferred.
  • Background in service-based, field services, construction, landscaping, or other labor-intensive business strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting multiple branches, offices, entities, or geographies.
  • Experience managing teams of 5+ teammates.
  • Experience managing end-to-end month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close processes.
  • Experience with transaction accounting, systems integrations, and consolidations.
  • Experience leading budgeting, FP&A, and cash outlook analyses.
  • Experience managing annual audit and tax processes.
  • Experience building finance systems, including policies, closing checklists, chart of accounts, and ERP systems.
  • Strong work ethic with an ability to roll up your sleeves and solve problems hands-on.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and deliver timely GAAP reporting.
  • Lead accounting operations across multiple branches, entities, and geographies.

  • Develop and maintain strong financial controls, accounting policies, closing processes, and reporting standards.

  • Build and manage budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and cash flow forecasting processes.
  • Partner with branch leaders to improve financial visibility, accountability, and decision-making.
  • Support acquisition diligence and lead financial integration of newly acquired businesses.
  • Help build scalable finance infrastructure, including policies, chart of accounts, ERP processes, and closing checklists.
  • Manage annual audit and tax processes alongside outside advisors.
  • Lead, develop, and continue building out the accounting team as Strata grows.
  • Partner with Strata's leadership team and private equity sponsors on financial reporting, board materials, lender reporting, and monthly operating reviews.

Job description

Strata is looking for an extraordinarily talented individual to join our corporate finance team as

our Corporate Controller. We are looking for someone excited by the opportunity to lead a

growing team in accounting, and developing and refining processes through an exciting phase

of accelerated growth as we scale from $20M to $200M in revenue over the next few years.

Strata is a private equity-backed company with a mandate to grow rapidly through both

acquisitions and organic sales. To help manage that growth, our accounting team will be a key

in ensuring we have accurate and insightful data for decision-making. As the accounting leader,

you'll be responsible for hiring, training and mentoring great people in our branch locations to

record and deliver financial results in a timely manner each month, coordinating with branch

managers across our portfolio, and supporting a budgeting process that informs critical

decisions by the executive team.

As we continue to scale, we are looking for a Financial Controller to help build a strong financial foundation for the next stage of Strata's growth.

Key Responsibilities

Location & Travel

This role will be based in Southern California and will follow a hybrid working model. There is flexibility to work from home as scheduling permits, but there is an expectation to spend a couple of days per week working alongside our teams at our branches.

Strata currently operates branches in San Diego, Los Angeles, Ventura County, and Salt Lake City. The Financial Controller should expect semi-frequent travel between branches, including periodic travel to Salt Lake City.

$120,000-$150,000 base salary
