The University of Maryland School of Medicine has an excitingopening for a Financial and Budget Analyst to work in theDepartment of Psychiatry.

About Us

The Department of Psychiatry has a tripartite mission of Clinical,Education and Research agendas, serving our surrounding communityand the State of Maryland, and providing expertise at a nationaland international level. We are staffed with 85 full-time and 30part-time faculty and provide a robust array of evidenced basedservices both locally at the University of Maryland Medical Centerand remotely to the entire University of Maryland Medical System,which encompasses 13 hospitals.

The Department houses top tier competitively funded researchers,including those at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center. Withmore than $43 million in federal grants and contracts, theDepartment is a leading clinical department within the Universityof Maryland School of Medicine.

Primary Duties
  • Maintain financial and budget spreadsheets in order to analyzefinancial data and prepare accurate and timely financial reportsfor school or department administrators, state budget, andfinancial reporting.
  • Download, compile, categorize, and manipulate the department orschool financial data using quantitative models and formulas.Prepare and distribute accurate, concise, well-organized, andtimely financial reports, presentations, and financial informationwhich may include financial charts, forecasting, and/or budget vs.actual variance analysis.
  • Work within deadlines to analyze and provide basic financialand budget forecasts for areas such as salaries, fringe benefits,indirect cost recoveries, state funds, revolving funds, grants andcontracts, fund balances, and other areas as needed.
  • Assist with reviewing and analyzing department or schoolassigned financial accounts and expenditures to identify patterns,trends, and anomalies in order to make accurate year-end revenue,expense, and surplus/deficit projections.
  • Maintain and monitor budget archives and financial data filesthat can quickly be accessed and manipulated to generate the neededfinancial information and reporting.
  • Assist with preparing responses for various internal andexternal agencies.
  • Keep management informed of work progress and processimprovements.
  • Communicate with schools and administrative units to understandtheir financial activity, request data or additional informationabout a particular issue, discuss anomalies or discrepancies thatare observed, and assist them with the preparation of variousinternal or external financial data requests.
  • Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for financialdata workflows, dashboard maintenance, billing process androutines, auditing processes and other procedures involvingfinancial and budgetary accounts as assigned.
  • Participate in the design, development, and management offinancial dashboards and reports created from multiple data sourcesto support decision making and planning at all levels of theUniversity.
  • Adhere to established University's policies, processes, andprocedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education

Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting,Economics, Business Administration, or business-related field.Master's degree preferred.

Experience

Three (3) years of experience in financialanalysis, management accounting, budgeting, auditing, datamanagement, or data analysis with one (1) year of experience infinancial analysis, management accounting, budgeting, auditing orassessment of internal controls. Prior experience with researchand/or sponsored programs in an educational environment ispreferred.

Preferred Experience

Experience using data analysis toextract, convert, and transform data from enterprise applicationsand loading data into a data warehouse, and business intelligencetools for data modeling within the healthcare sectorpreferred.

Certification/Licensure

Certified Public Accountant (CPA),Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Financial Manager(CFM), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) preferred.

Other

Except for qualifications established by law,additional related experience and formal education in which one hasgained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for fullperformance of the work of the job class may be substituted for theeducation or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year ofrelated experience. In instances where specific education and/orexperience is required only directly related education and/orexperience may be substituted.

Hiring Range

$70,500 - $82,000, commensurate with educationand experience.
