Job summary

James Madison University is seeking a part-time Peer Counselor I to support the Financial Aid & Scholarships Customer Service Team in Harrisonburg. You will help students and families navigate the financial aid process, answering questions and directing inquiries during campus office hours.

As a current student with Federal Work Study eligibility, you will gain professional communication and problem-solving experience while assisting with general inbox tasks and cross-department referrals.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a first point of contact for students, families, and campus visitors.
• Provide accurate information on financial aid applications, deadlines, documentation, awards, and resources.
• Respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries with excellent customer service.
• Assist with monitoring the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships general inbox under staff guidance.
• Refer complex questions to financial aid counselors and other university departments.
