Overview
An established, well-regarded company in the construction industry is seeking a Finance Manager to lead its accounting and finance function across multiple legal entities. This is an on-site role based in the Columbia, SC metropolitan area, reporting to the Vice President and directly leading a finance and accounting team.
What you’ll do
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, inventory management, and general ledger maintenance
- Manage timely and accurate month-end close activities
- Maintain and document accounting policies and procedures
- Prepare and analyze month-end financial reports covering month, quarter, and year-to-date results
- Coordinate completion of the Weekly Flash Report and Monthly KPI workbook
- Provide verbal and written analysis of actual results versus budget/forecast, recommending business decisions to improve results
- Analyze overhead costs and communicate trends
- Analyze project job costs, ensure accurate accounting, and recommend job pricing strategies with the President and Vice President to increase profitability
- Create and maintain the annual budget and quarterly forecasts with the management team
- Maintain banking relationships in partnership with the President and Vice President
- Review daily/weekly cash requirements and develop and maintain cash flow forecasts
- Ensure accounts are properly funded across legal entities daily
- Establish and maintain a system of internal controls
- Manage insurance programs including property, general liability, and workers' compensation
- Manage project bonds
- Maintain relationship with an external CPA and ensure tax compliance and regulatory reporting, including timely income, sales tax filings, and 941s
- Coordinate financial statement reviews or audits as appropriate
- Prepare business and contractor licenses
- Create and promote a positive work environment; hire, train, and retain accounting and finance staff
- Develop a cross-training program and maintain SOPs for all accounting functions
- Assess accounting operations and recommend improvements
- Assist with pre-qualifications for general contractors and subcontractors
- Assist the President and other management personnel with projects as needed
- Complete other duties as assigned
What you’ll need
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
- At least 5 years of related experience preferred, including at least 1 year at the manager level over people
- Construction industry experience required
- Experience with AI Billing software preferred
- Experience with Foundation Construction software is a plus
- Glass industry experience is a plus
- Strong work ethic and integrity
- Strong interpersonal skills, including collaboration and communication
- High attention to detail
- Proficient in Excel
- Ability to manage competing priorities
- Able to work 45-50 hours per week
