A growing specialty construction contractor is seeking an experienced Financial Controller / Head of Finance to take ownership of the company’s full finance and accounting function.
This is a hands‑on, strategic role working directly with ownership. The successful candidate will oversee day‑to‑day accounting while providing meaningful financial insight around job costing, project profitability, cash flow, budgeting, and business growth.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead full-cycle accounting, including AP, AR and payroll oversight
- Manage the monthly close process and ensure accurate financial reporting
- Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting
- Own job costing and WIP reporting across active projects
- Analyze project margins, budgets vs. actuals and cost variances
- Provide financial insight to PMs and ownership to improve project profitability
- Build and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts
- Lead annual budgeting and ongoing performance tracking
- Manage sales tax filings and financial compliance
- Serve as the primary liaison with lenders, external accountants and tax advisors
- Support ownership with acquisition due diligence and financial integration
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and improved vendor terms
- Review vendor/subcontractor contracts, payment terms and overbilling
- Develop clear financial dashboards and reporting for ownership
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of accounting or finance experience
- Construction, specialty contracting, trades or other project-based industry experience preferred
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP and project-level financial management
- Strong GAAP and accounting fundamentals
- Experience managing or overseeing AP/AR functions
- Ability to translate financial data into clear business recommendations
- Highly detail-oriented with strong commercial judgment
- Confident communicating with ownership, project teams and external stakeholders
- CPA or MBA is a plus

- Procore or similar construction management platforms
- Integration of acquired companies and accounting systems
- Commercial subcontractor or specialty trades environment
