Job summary

HRmango is partnering with our client to hire an experienced Accounting Manager to join their growing team. This hands-on leadership role requires a strong construction industry background and the ability to own day‑to‑day accounting operations while guiding a team.

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will oversee monthly close, financial reporting, internal controls, and core accounting functions with a focus on job costing, WIP, contract accounting, and ASC 606 revenue recognition.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years progressive accounting experience.
  • 2+ years leading accounting team members.
  • Construction industry experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with WIP, job costing, and contract accounting.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Job description

HRmango is partnering with our client to hire an experienced Accounting Manager to join their growing team. This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity for an accounting professional with a strong construction industry background who is ready to take ownership of day‑to‑day accounting operations, lead a team, and continue growing within the organization.

Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager will oversee the monthly close, financial reporting, internal controls, and core accounting functions while playing a key role in strengthening construction accounting practices, particularly job costing, WIP, contract accounting, and revenue recognition.

This position offers strong visibility across the organization and meaningful opportunity for continued professional and leadership growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop accounting team members, including setting priorities, assigning work, reviewing output, and supporting ongoing training.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, consolidations, close calendars, and management reporting.
  • Support the Corporate Controller with accurate and timely financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Lead monthly WIP and construction contract accounting, including:
  • Job costing
  • Estimates to complete
  • Projected margins
  • Progress billings
  • Retainage
  • Change orders
  • Contract assets and liabilities
  • ASC 606 revenue recognition
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, fixed assets, and intercompany accounting.
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and financial documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting consistency, and data accuracy.
  • Coordinate state and local tax compliance and support payroll tax administration across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Support annual audits, tax filings, budgets, forecasts, and other financial reporting requirements.
  • Provide financial analysis and communicate meaningful insights to the Corporate Controller and operational leadership.
  • Partner with business leaders to improve financial visibility and support stronger operational decision‑making.
  • Assist with special projects and additional accounting initiatives as the organization continues to grow.
Required Qualifications
  • Previous accounting experience within the construction industry is required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • 2+ years of experience leading, supervising, or directly managing accounting team members.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and contract accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month‑end close.
  • Experience with state and payroll tax compliance, ideally including:
  • Multi‑state registrations
  • Sales and use tax
  • Contractor exemptions
  • Certified payroll
  • Prevailing wage requirements
  • Union reporting
  • Related reconciliations
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working with accounting and/or ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
