Job description

LHH has partnered with a leading project-based organization that is seeking a Finance Manager to support divisional financial operations and serve as a key partner to both accounting leadership and operational stakeholders. This role is well suited for someone who has built a strong accounting foundation and has grown into broader financial oversight, team leadership, and business partnership responsibilities.

The position offers a mix of controllership, operational finance, project analysis, and team leadership, with visibility into both day-to-day execution and longer-term process improvement initiatives. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who may currently be operating as an Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or similar accounting leader and is ready for greater ownership and future progression. The underlying scope includes oversight of core financial operations, project/job-cost analysis, close management, and leadership of a multi-level team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead core divisional finance and accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate execution across recurring financial processes and internal reporting requirements.
  • Partner closely with operations, project teams, procurement, and leadership to evaluate business performance, monitor cost drivers, and support decision-making across active workstreams and projects.
  • Oversee month-end close activities, financial reporting, and analysis tied to project performance, cost trends, and operational results.
  • Provide leadership over key finance functions and supervise a team responsible for high-volume financial operations, while influencing a broader cross-functional group.
  • Direct management responsibility for 4+ team members.
  • Support project and contract-related financial analysis, including job-cost review, margin considerations, and scenario planning tied to bids, proposals, and capital decisions.
  • Help maintain a strong controls environment by reinforcing accounting policies, compliance standards, audit readiness, and disciplined financial processes. The role also supports audits, vendor relationships, and insurance-related reviews.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve processes, enhance reporting, and leverage systems more effectively across the finance organization, with a stated focus on investing in people, process, and technology.
  • Act as a strategic partner to divisional leadership by translating operational and project-level activity into clear financial insight and actionable recommendations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced degree is a plus.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience across accounting and finance, with a foundation in controllership, reporting, or financial operations.
  • Preference for construction or adjacent project-based industries.
  • Strong grounding in accounting and close processes, paired with growing exposure to broader finance, business partnership, and operational analysis.
  • Experience leading teams and developing staff in a fast-paced environment
  • Background in project-based or contract-driven businesses is highly attractive, particularly where candidates have worked with cost accounting, job-cost analysis, or operational finance.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with both finance and non-finance stakeholders, including operations and executive leadership.
  • Strong systems aptitude and reporting capabilities, including Excel and modern financial or operational tools
