LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with our nonprofit client to identify an experienced Accounting Manager for a long-term engagement. The Accounting Manager will oversee daily accounting operations, lead the month-end close process, supervise accounting staff, and help drive process improvements that support the organization's financial health and operational goals.
About the Role
The Accounting Manager serves as a critical member of the finance team and is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, timely transaction processing, and compliance with internal controls. This role combines day-to-day accounting oversight with staff supervision and continuous improvement initiatives, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both operational accounting and leadership responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Accounting Operations
- Oversee daily accounting activities and ensure financial transactions are processed accurately and timely
- Review and approve invoices, employee expense reimbursements, recurring payments, and other disbursements
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure proper account coding
- Review journal entries and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy
- Monitor cash activity, deposits, and other financial transactions
- Perform and review account reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with established accounting policies and procedures
- Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Lead the monthly close process and ensure deadlines are consistently met
- Review financial data and identify discrepancies requiring resolution
- Prepare and analyze schedules supporting month-end and year-end reporting
- Support annual audits by preparing requested documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
- Assist with tax filings, compliance reporting, and financial statement preparation as needed
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including accounting and accounts payable team members
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and day-to-day guidance
- Prioritize workloads to ensure critical deadlines are met
- Assist with onboarding, training, and cross-training initiatives
- Promote collaboration and accountability within the finance department
- Process Improvement & Systems
- Support ongoing enhancements to accounting systems and financial processes
- Recommend and implement workflow improvements that increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls
- Collaborate with finance leadership on special projects and system initiatives
- Assist with process documentation and best practices development
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and month-end close procedures
- Experience working with ERP or accounting software platforms
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in a nonprofit environment
- Exposure to grant-funded or government-funded programs
- Familiarity with Sage Intacct, Concur, or similar accounting and expense management systems
- Experience implementing process improvements and strengthening accounting controls

Pay range and compensation package
Pay Range: $46.97 - $53.88 per hour (DOE)
