Position Summary

SponsoredProjects Services (SPS) within the Research,innovation and Economic Development division at the StateUniversity of New York at Buffalo is searching for FinanceManagers (FM). This role has primary responsibility forcollaborating with Principal Investigators (PIs) to ensure thesmooth financial management and oversight of a diverse fundingportfolio. The incumbent will manage sponsored award portfolios forassigned PIs with responsibilities including post-award financialreconciliation, budget planning and projections, and timelyprocessing of all post-award financial activity, including salarychanges and appointments.

The FM will be the first point of contact for all the PI'spost-award financial needs and will collaborate with post-awardcolleagues to ensure the efficient processing and reconciliation offinancial activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Award planning, including initial kick-off meeting for allrelated parties.

  • Analyze expenses and projected spending to maximize the use ofavailable funds and ensure compliance with sponsor, university andResearch Foundation requirements and policies.
  • Assist with adhering to the specific reporting guidelines andrequirements set by external sponsors, which include expectationsfor report format and content.
  • Create internal financial reports and conduct meetings withfaculty members to review their research portfolioseffectively.
  • Periodically review the effectiveness of the financialreporting process and meeting structure, adjusting as necessary to improve efficiency and communication.
  • Serve as the liaison between PIs and various administrativeunits across UB.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team andserve as a resource for other research administration staff.
  • Experience fostering a supportive environment, advocating forfaculty members, and helping overcome challenges in achievingfunding goals.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Relationship Building: Skill in building positive relationshipswith PIs, faculty members, and administrative colleagues.
  • Advocacy: The capacity to advocate for the needs of PIs, fostera conducive atmosphere for realizing funding objectives, andmaintain adherence to the intricate regulatory landscape ofmanaging sponsored programs.

Minimum Qualifications

$80,000 - $87,500
