Finance Manager
Job Summary

The Accounting & Finance Manager reports to the Director of Sunnyside Apartments and will join a five‑person management team to lead family and graduate housing operations at the University of Utah. The role supervises one staff member in the main office of Sunnyside Apartments and manages day‑to‑day accounting and finance functions within the department. Responsibilities include invoicing, payroll, purchasing, collections, credits, budgeting, expenses, fiscal reporting, profitability, allocations, inventory (capital and non‑capital), and reconciliation between Sunnyside apartment management system (Yardi Voyager) and the University of Utah's financial reporting system (Peoplesoft).

Responsibilities
  • Direct, manage, and supervise one or more accounting teams; ensure adherence to GAAP or other accounting standards.
  • Prepare and review all required regulatory filings and advise on annual budgeting.
  • Manage accounting close processes, review work submitted by accountants, and perform analysis on financials and accounting metrics for presentation to leadership.
  • Handle daily financial operations: accounts payable and receivable, purchasing card program management, daily deposit approval, and petty cash custody.
  • Coordinate monthly and annual profit & loss statements, balance sheet reconciliation, restoration & renewal statements, operating & R&R budgets, and financial reporting to Auxiliary Services, the University of Utah CFO, Board of Trustees, and Board of Regents.
  • Respond to internal audit, maintain and archive financial records per university policy, and oversee capital and non‑capital inventory and stockroom inventory & procurement.
  • Perform office management functions, cross‑train on daily office business processes, and execute other duties as assigned.
  • Lead hiring, performance appraisals, and pay reviews for the staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) plus 6 years of directly related work experience, or a master’s degree (or equivalent) plus 4 years of directly related work experience.
  • Equivalency statement: each year of higher education can be substituted for one year of directly related work experience.
Preferences
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service at a previous employer.
  • Experience in property management and/or residential rentals.
  • Demonstrated history of successful service to or for non‑traditional students and/or students of international origin.
