Job summary

TriSource in Maryland is seeking an experienced Controller to lead all financial operations for a growing commercial construction business. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of construction accounting or financial management experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Demonstrated experience with: WIP reporting, Job costing, Construction financial operations, Proficiency with construction ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Track and control project costs vs. budget.
  • Prepare and analyze WIP reports, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Partner with Project Managers and operations teams to review financial performance and drive improvements.
  • Assess and improve existing accounting systems, workflows, and procedures.
  • Evaluate and implement construction ERP systems and financial technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and financial regulations.
  • Oversee payroll, AP, AR; coordinate with CPA firms, clients, and auditors.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls and financial policies.
  • Conduct subcontractor prequalification reviews and manage cash flow/weekly forecasting.
  • Develop and track KPIs tied to financial and project performance; deliver insights to executive leadership.

Highly experienced Controller to lead and optimize all financial operations for a growing commercial construction business. This role blends hands-on construction accounting, operational leadership, and process improvement, with a strong emphasis on helping scale the organization's expected growth over the next 5-10 years.

The ideal candidate is not only technically strong in construction accounting but also has a proven track record of driving growth, implementing systems, and building scalable financial infrastructure within a construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts
  • Track and control project costs vs. budget
  • Prepare and analyze:
  • Work-in-progress (WIP) reports
  • Balance sheets
  • Cash flow statements
  • Partner with Project Managers and operations teams to review financial performance and drive improvements
  • Assess and improve existing accounting systems, workflows, and procedures
  • Evaluate and implement construction ERP systems and financial technologies
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and financial regulations
  • Oversee:
  • Payroll
  • Accounts Payable (AP)
  • Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Coordinate with CPA firms, clients, and auditors for financial reviews and audits
  • Implement and maintain internal controls and financial policies
  • Conduct subcontractor prequalification reviews

  • Develop and track KPIs tied to financial and project performance

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 10+ years of construction accounting or financial management experience
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP
  • Demonstrated experience with:
  • WIP reporting
  • Job costing
  • Construction financial operations
  • Proficiency with construction ERP systems
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis capabilities

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA, or CCIFP certification
  • Experience in small-to-mid-sized construction firms
