Job summary

Rising Ground in New York, NY is seeking a Finance Supervisor/Controller to manage budgets and accounting for multiple programs in a not-for-profit setting.

You will supervise 5–6 staff, oversee monthly closings, budgets, billings, and audits, and collaborate with program leadership to ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance.

The role requires a BS or higher in accounting, 7–10 years not-for-profit experience, and strong Excel; CPA is desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in accounting or related field.
• 7–10 years of not-for-profit accounting experience required.
• 2–3 years of supervisory experience desired.
• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills required.
• CPA desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support contract accountants and manage budgets for programs.
• Review annual budgets and prepare budget proposals for programs.
• Perform monthly budget to actual analyses and prepare billing reports.
• Coordinate audits and prepare ACS/Uniform Guidance reports.
• Collaborate with program leadership and ensure expenditures stay within budgets.
• Prepare program financial statements and ensure general ledger integrity.
• Oversee salary details and related schedules for reporting.
• Lead a team of 5–6 accounting staff and supervisors.
