Job summary

Tribal Health is seeking a Finance Director to lead fiscal operations, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance for a mission‑driven nonprofit health system in California, reporting to executive leadership and the Board.

You will drive financial strategy, government funding compliance, Medicare/Medi-Cal costing, 340B, audits, and oversee Finance, Billing, and Credentialing teams while partnering with HR.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of supervisory experience in financial management, budgeting, and fund accounting.
• Strong knowledge of automated financial systems and Excel.
• Experience with publicly funded nonprofit healthcare, Tribal 638 clinics, or FQHCs preferred.
• Strong understanding of government funding and compliance.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Experience with EHR/automated data systems; NextGen preferred.
• Strong ethics, judgment, and accountability.

Responsibilities

I’m partnering with a mission-driven healthcare organization to identify an experienced Finance Director to lead fiscal operations, financial planning, compliance, and financial strategy.

This is an opportunity to step into a key leadership role supporting a growing healthcare organization and working directly with executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

What You’ll Lead

The Finance Director will provide oversight of the organization’s financial operations, including:

• Financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
• Government funding, contracts, and grant compliance
• Medicare/Medi-Cal cost reporting
• 340B drug pricing program compliance
• Payroll and accounts receivable oversight
• Annual audits and financial reporting
• State and federal tax reporting
• Internal controls and fiscal policies
• Financial reporting to executive leadership, the Finance Committee, and Board of Directors
• I.H.S. program contracts, including 105(L) lease programs
• Investment management and organizational insurance coverage
• Oversight of Finance, Billing, and Credentialing teams

You’ll also partner closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and HR to support financial growth, capital projects, service line expansion, and employee benefit programs.

Who I'm Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

• MPA, MBA, CPA, or related financial/business education
• 5+ years of supervisory experience in financial management, budgeting, and fund accounting
• Strong knowledge of automated financial management systems and Excel
• Experience with publicly funded nonprofit healthcare, Tribal 638 clinics, or FQHCs preferred
• Strong understanding of government funding and compliance
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Experience with EHR/automated data systems; NextGen preferred
