Job summary

You will process supplier invoices, perform reconciliations, assist with VAT returns, and liaise with internal departments and suppliers. Hybrid working with three days onsite in Wallingford.

Qualifications

• Assist with month-end processes including prepayments, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support VAT returns and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting schedules.
• Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to resolve financial queries.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and support the wider finance team.

Finance Assistant – Wallingford

£40,000 – £45,000 | Hybrid Working – 3 Days Onsite

Clark Wood are recruiting for a Finance Assistant to join an established finance team in Wallingford. This is a hands‑on role suited to an experienced finance professional with a good grounding in day to day accounting and a working knowledge of month end processes.

Working alongside the CFO, Management Accountant and wider finance team, you will take responsibility for a range of transactional and accounting duties, helping to maintain accurate financial records and ensure the smooth running of the finance function.

The role would suit someone who is AAT qualified, part‑qualified or qualified by experience (QBE), with practical experience across reconciliations, balance sheet accounts and month‑end procedures.

The Role

• Processing supplier invoices, ensuring accurate coding and timely approvals.


• Preparing supplier payment runs and managing payment queries.


• Completing bank and credit card reconciliations, investigating discrepancies where necessary.


• Posting day‑to‑day bookkeeping entries and maintaining accurate accounting records.


• Assisting with month‑end processes, including prepayments, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations.


• Maintaining and reconciling balance sheet accounts, investigating outstanding items.


• Supporting VAT returns and other statutory reporting requirements.


• Assisting with audit preparation and providing supporting schedules and documentation.


• Liaising with internal departments and external suppliers to resolve financial queries.


• Identifying opportunities to improve processes and supporting the wider finance team as required.

About You

• Previous experience in a hands‑on finance or accounting role.


• A good understanding of month‑end procedures, prepayments, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations.


• Comfortable working with accounting systems and maintaining accurate financial records.


• Proactive, organised and able to manage your own workload.


• AAT qualified, part‑qualified or QBE, with relevant practical experience.

The Opportunity

• Salary of £40,000 – £45,000, depending on experience.
