Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee the company's accounting and financial operations. This individual will lead day-to-day accounting activities, ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance, and provide financial analysis and insight to support business decisions and long-term planning.
The Financial Controller will oversee an accounting team of approximately four employees and partner closely with senior leadership, external CPAs, lenders, auditors, tax advisors, and other business partners.
The organization is a wholesale distributor with distribution operations across California, Texas, and Virginia, as well as an international sourcing office. Products are purchased from overseas suppliers and distributed to customers throughout the U.S. The company utilizes an ERP system for financial transactions and reporting, along with business intelligence tools for advanced reporting and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Lead and develop the accounting team, ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent financial processes.
- Prepare and review monthly and annual financial statements and management reporting.
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
- Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Monitor cash flow, expenses, profitability, and overall financial performance.
- Ensure accounting practices comply with applicable statutory regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies.
- Partner with external auditors and tax advisors during annual audits, tax filings, and other financial compliance activities.
- Provide financial reporting and analysis to senior management, the company's CPA, and lenders as required.
- Support business planning and strategic decision-making through financial modeling and analysis.
- Oversee payroll and HR-related financial and administrative responsibilities.
- Manage commercial insurance policies and relationships with brokers and insurance carriers.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, reporting, and operational efficiency.
- Leverage ERP and business intelligence systems to improve financial reporting, data analysis, and decision-making.
- Evaluate and implement AI-enabled tools and technologies that can enhance financial planning, reporting, analysis, and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or other relevant professional certification preferred.
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar financial leadership role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls.
- Experience overseeing AP, AR, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to translate financial data into business recommendations.
- Experience managing and developing accounting professionals.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial management software.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools preferred.
- Knowledge of AI‑enabled financial tools is preferred; demonstrated experience leveraging AI to improve financial planning or reporting is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with senior leadership, external CPAs, auditors, lenders, tax advisors, brokers, and other external partners.
- Base salary $150K - $180K based on experience
- Annual bonus eligibility based on experience
