Job summary

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles is seeking a Library Assistant to support the Reference & Public Services team in the Margaret Herrick Library. You will assist patrons, manage room monitoring, and provide retrieval and photocopying services, while handling rare materials with care and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• 1 year of customer or patron service in a library, archive, museum, or similar setting.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in film studies or related discipline.
• Strong customer service background.
• Proficiency with common software systems, including Microsoft Office.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist library patrons and serve as room monitor at Service, Special Collections, and Orientation desks.
• Provide retrieval and photocopying services for library users.
• Train patrons in use and handling of library materials and equipment (e-readers, audio equipment, microfiche/microfilm readers).
• Maintain knowledge of classification systems for Core Collection materials and undertake clipping/indexing tasks.
• Understand reproduction policies and handle rare/fragile materials with discretion.
• Undertake specialized assignments for Technical Services and Core Collection Reference Files.
