Job summary

LAC Federal is seeking a skilled Film Archivist in Culpeper, Virginia to preserve and improve access to historically significant motion-picture collections. You will inspect film, create inventory and metadata, and implement workflows for long-term archival planning.

You will work with agency staff, handle archival materials with care, and develop repeatable processing procedures while meeting federal standards and requirements.

Qualifications

• At least six months of experience in a library or archives environment performing similar tasks.
• Demonstrated expertise in motion-picture film identification, handling, and inspection.
• Proficiency in distinguishing and managing varied film elements (negatives, prints, soundtracks, etc.).
• Knowledge of historic motion-picture formats and archival principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop collection processing plans with agency staff and priorities.
• Inspect 16mm and 35mm film to identify titles, reel numbers, and production elements.
• Assess and document film condition and preservation needs; refer to specialists as needed.
• Create and maintain accurate item-level inventory and audiovisual metadata.
