This position description is designed to outline primary duties and qualifications, but not limit one to specified duties, to ensure individual and group success.Job Summary:The Lead Filler Operator is responsible for teaching and guiding all lower-level Operators. Responsibility for overseeing filling & packing of products according to the individual work order specifications, while following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) and Safety procedures. Individuals must maintain a safe and pleasant manner while ensuring the department meets its goal of completing as many work orders per day as possible, with maximum safety, quality and accuracy.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPractice, teach and enforce the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) established for Production.Practice, teach and enforce all Safety and Quality policies and procedures.Practice, teach and enforce all Production Department Policies and Procedures.Practice, teach and enforce all processing, change over, clean-up, and sanitation procedures related to equipment and machines in the department, per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Create, implement and maintain effective filler operator program and training schedule.Develop and teach high impact filler operators to all aspects of the job.Coordinate new employee training and ensure the success of new operators.Responsible for training new filler operators at all necessary tasks using operational instructions, SOP’s, and SSOP’s.Teach safe, effective and efficient set up, and operation of filler machine, HMI’s, PLC’s and other related machinery.Responsible for sterilization and manual washing of machine components, including COP, CIP and SIP.Responsible for monitoring and maintaining quality of product and processes and making required operating adjustments.Oversees performance of regular quality testing such as dye testing and seal integrity checksAssist with minor repair and maintenance of machines.Responsible for the documentation of products for the filler and capper machines; including taking weights, teardowns to check integrity of the cartons, assuring caps are on properly, downtime recording, documenting necessary information on the sanitation log.Perform fill volume and fill weight checks and make volume or net weight adjustments as necessary.Observe entrance of cartons into the machine to detect damaged or defective cartons which would jam the machine. Remove defective cartons when needed.Maintain and refill supply of caps and cases to machine to insure proper plant operation at all times.Assure caps and cases are properly applied and sealed; including inspection of cap glue pattern and case integrity.Knowledge and understanding of basic computer and control systems.Understand the process flow and step by step requirements for aseptic manufacturing.Complete all assigned cleaning tasks as required by the master cleaning schedule or assigned cleaning tasks.Follow and comply with all applicable GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s, SQF, HACCP and all safety procedures.Perform all other duties as assignedEducation and Skills:High school diploma or GED, and/or 2 years work experience preferably in a manufacturing environmentSufficiently comprehend EnglishComprehend basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, weights and measures, and efficient use of a calculatorKnowledge and understanding of basic computer and control systemsPossess mechanical aptitude with the ability to assemble, troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on manufacturing equipmentAbility to communicate both written and orally within the organizationBasic knowledge of food processingAbility to give positive suggestions to improve operations in the work centerTeam Oriented - being helpful, respectful, approachable, building strong working relationships and a positive work environment, is responsible, honest, loyal, interacts with others tactfully, resolves conflicts appropriately, and adapts to changeAbility to manage time efficiently and work well under changing demandsFollow verbal and written instructionsMust have good work ethics, be highly motivated, and be a hands-on problem solverAbility to detect, recognize, and judge discrepanciesRequires accuracy, reliability, and attention to qualityPhysical Demands:Vision, hearing, and speaking to meet performance standards.Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods, reach, push, pull, lift, climb, bend, stoop, squat, and use manual dexterity to work with the following tools: filler machines, scales, pallet jacks, drum dollies, mops, brooms, portable stairs, hoses, forklifts etc.Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and move heavier weights using proper equipment and/or team lifting techniques.Work Environment:Requires ability to work in an environment that may contain dust, odors, moderate level noise, and temperature and ventilation variations while wearing any appropriate safety and/or protective clean room apparel required (e.g.: safety glasses, gloves, hair net, face mask or respirator, and uniforms)
