Job summary

Gehl Food & Beverage in Lathrop, CA is hiring a Filler Operator for the 3rd shift (6:00pm–6:30am) to operate multiple filling lines and uphold safety, GMP, and quality standards. The role includes learning to obtain a State of California Filler Operator’s license and providing operational leadership on the line.

This advanced machine role emphasizes problem solving, documentation, equipment checks, and collaboration with teams.

Qualifications

  • Must possess effective oral and listening skills to communicate with team members, management, and customers.
  • Must read and interpret batch sheets, logs, and operational instructions.
  • Knowledge of GMP, CIP/sanitation basics, and GMPs.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and follow all safety, food safety, and GMP requirements.
  • Train on operating the filling systems and support basic machine operation tasks.
  • Assist with startup, operation, and shutdown activities and perform checks as instructed.
  • Support quality and package integrity inspections and verify codes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of production data and downtime events.
  • Learn FIFO procedures and assist with staging and organizing materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness and support 5S standards in the filler area.
  • Communicate equipment concerns promptly to a supervisor.
  • Participate in basic maintenance activities and lubrication as directed.
  • Develop knowledge toward obtaining a State Filler Operator License.

Position Overview:

As an Advanced Machine Operator, the Filler Operator is responsible for operating multiple machine systems and for obtaining and maintaining a State of California Filler Operator’s license. The Filler Operator is required to operate equipment in accordance with manufacturer standards, organizational quality standards and SOPs, and all applicable state and federal regulations. Additionally, the operator is responsible for the quality of the finished product and must be actively involved in the operational maintenance of the system. This is a highly technical role that requires strong problem-solving skills. The Filler Operator is also responsible for providing operational leadership for the filling line.

What You'll Do
  • · Learn and follow all safety, food safety, and GMP requirements. Understand OSHA rules, company safety policies, and proper use of PPE while working around machinery and product.
  • · Train on operating the filling systems under direct supervision. Support basic machine operation tasks while developing the knowledge required to run the equipment according to SOPs and manufacturer guidelines.
  • · Assist with startup, operation, and shutdown activities. Observe and perform checks for pressures, flows, temperatures, and other parameters as instructed by a licensed operator or supervisor.
  • · Support quality and package integrity inspections. Perform visual checks, verify materials, and confirm codes match the work order during training.
  • · Practice accurate and legible documentation. Record production data, observations, and downtime events as trained. Ensure entries are complete, neat, and timely.
  • · Learn correct material handling and FIFO procedures. Assist with staging, verifying, and organizing materials for production.
  • · Maintain cleanliness and support 5S standards. Help keep the filler area organized, clean, and compliant with sanitation expectations.
  • · Communicate equipment concerns immediately. Report irregularities, unusual sounds, alarms, or parameter deviations to a trainer or supervisor right away.
  • · Participate in basic maintenance activities. Support simple Autonomous Maintenance (AM) tasks such as cleaning, inspection, and lubrication as directed.
  • · Build technical knowledge toward obtaining a State Filler Operator License. Learn process flow, system functions, and regulatory requirements needed to progress to a fully licensed operator.
  • · Demonstrate positive behavior and professionalism. Follow instructions, ask questions, stay engaged, and work respectfully with team members.
  • · Perform other duties as assigned.

  • · Must have legible handwriting with proven writing capabilities to properly maintain documentation and recordkeeping.
  • · Demonstrated ability to maintain consistent attention to detail and sustained concentration to ensure accuracy, avoid distractions, and prevent process deviations.
  • · Mathematical skills with the ability to convert between units of measure (e.g., gallons to pounds, percentages to batch quantities).
