Job summary

The Commerce Department in Minnesota is seeking a Trainee-Weights & Measures Investigator who will enforce state quality standards for volumetric and linear measuring equipment, scales, and related devices. You will inspect fuel meters, grocery-store scales, and packaged goods, often outdoors, with some overnight travel during training.

During training (3–6 months) you will earn $24.84/hr, then advance to Weights & Measures Investigator 1 - Light Duty upon successful completion, with duties

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Obtain a Class D Driver's License (with clean driving record) prior to end of training period.
• Math skills sufficient to understand and solve basic volumetric equations and correctly apply measurement methods.
• Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Responsibilities

• Enforce quality standards for weighing and measuring equipment as described in Minnesota statutes and Department rules.
• Carry out inspections and performance-based tests on meters, scales, and related equipment at gas stations, grocery stores, and other facilities.
• Perform duties outdoors in all weather, with occasional overnight travel during training and fieldwork.
