Job summary

Washington State Department of Agriculture seeks a Weights & Measures Compliance Specialist in-training. The role enforces state and federal laws, inspects fuel stations, checks scales and packaging, and investigates complaints.

In-training progression to higher class is available with a defined training plan and potential location pay. Successful candidates will hold relevant education and/or experience, obtain a CDL within one year, and may work from home in a WA home duty station with travel

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in inspection, maintenance, repair, installation and/or design of weighing or measuring equipment or in enforcement of weights and measures laws.
• Education may substitute for the required experience on a ratio of one year of college education equivalent to six months of experience.
• Associate’s degree or higher with major coursework in mathematics, chemistry, physics, engineering, electronics, criminal justice, business administration or allied fields.

Responsibilities

• Enforce weights and measures laws to protect consumers and ensure fair competition.
• Inspect retail motor fuel stations for advertising, pricing and labeling accuracy.
• Test fuel dispensers for accuracy and correct computation of charges.
• Collect motor fuel samples for laboratory testing under the State Motor Fuel Quality Act.
• Inspect and test scales using certified test weights.
• Inspect packaging for weight, count and volume and ensure proper labeling.
