Job summary

The City of Muskogee is seeking a Water Distribution Meter Technician to test and repair water meters used for utility billing. You will operate tools and equipment, record test results, and assist in meter calibration and maintenance across city locations.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of related maintenance experience, plus a valid Oklahoma Class D driver's license and the ability to obtain a Class C Water license within nine months.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED preferred, and one year of experience as a trades helper or maintenance laborer in construction/maintenance trades.
• Basic knowledge of test equipment and use of hand tools to disassemble, assemble, calibrate and repair water meters.
• Must quickly demonstrate ability to learn meter calibration, repair and testing procedures.
• Familiarity with basic office equipment and word processing/spreadsheet software.

Responsibilities

• Operate hand tools, power tools, light trucks, and small equipment.
• Participate with a group of workers in maintenance activities including operating small to medium equipment.
• Test various sizes of water meters with special test equipment.
• Repair, paint, clean and calibrate meters.
• Keep records of all test results on meters.
• Enter all information concerning size, location, removal and repair of water meters into the computer.
• Order meters and associated parts from vendors.
• Operate office equipment and use databases; learn new office technologies.
• Perform other work as necessary and assigned.
• Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.
