Job summary

OWASA is seeking a skilled Utility Technician III to join the Water Distribution and Sewer Collection team in Carrboro, NC. You will maintain water, sewer and reclaimed water lines, support multiple crews, and lead in the Crew Supervisor's absence.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, two years' experience, NC driver's license (CDL preferred), and ability to obtain required certifications. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits accompany the position.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED, plus specialized schooling in water and sewer systems.
• Two years of experience working with water and sewer systems.
• Valid North Carolina driver license with ability to obtain and maintain a CDL.
• Ability to complete employer paid certification in Sewer Collection System Grade II or Water Distribution System Grade B.
• Experience using Microsoft Office and knowledge of Cityworks or similar work order system.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with customers and staff.
• Able to lift up to 100 pounds, work outdoors in all weather, and respond to after-hours emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Supports maintenance of water, sewer, and reclaimed water lines within OWASA's system.
• Be assigned to a specific crew covering Sewer Maintenance, Valve and Hydrant Maintenance, Water Maintenance and Services, Customer Service and Meters, Sewer Preventative Maintenance, and Construction.
• Responds to rotating on-call after-hour emergencies as needed.
• Leads team members in the absence of the Crew Supervisor.
• Uses hand tools and operates heavy equipment as required.
