Job summary

WSB is seeking a Field Technician in Nashville, TN to support subsurface utility investigations, locate and document underground utilities, and verify locations using GPR and vacuum excavation. You will collect field data, prepare reports, and coordinate with project teams, travel to sites, and work outdoors in varying conditions.

The role requires a high school diploma (associate degree preferred), 0–2 years in related fieldwork, OSHA training, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree preferred in surveying or GIS-related fields.
• 0–2 years in utility locating or surveying preferred.
• Experience with locating equipment, GPS data collection, vacuum excavation equipment, or related field tech.
• Ability to read utility maps and construction documents.
• Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
• Valid driver's license with clean record; ability to operate a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Perform subsurface utility investigations using locators, GPR, and other technologies.
• Locate and document underground utilities including electric, gas, telecommunications, fiber, water, sewers.
• Conduct designation and verification per procedures and standards.
• Perform vacuum excavation and potholing to verify locations and materials.
• Collect and validate field measurements for design and mapping.
• Document information using GPS, GIS, and field data collection tools.
• Review records, drawings, and maps to support investigations.
• Prepare field notes, sketches, photos, and reports.
