Job summary

WSB and Associates is hiring a Field Technician for SUE to support engineering, surveying, and construction projects. You will locate and document underground utilities using electromagnetic locators, GPR, GPS, and vacuum excavation techniques.

The role involves field investigations, data collection, and collaboration with project teams. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and preferred AS degree in surveying/GIS.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Preferred associate degree in surveying or GIS-related field.
• 0–2 years in utility locating, surveying, or related field preferred.
• Experience operating utility locating equipment and GPS data collection devices preferred.
• Ability to read utility maps and construction documents.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Perform subsurface utility investigations using electromagnetic locators and GPR.
• Locate, mark, and document underground utilities.
• Conduct utility designation and verification per procedures and standards.
• Perform vacuum excavation to verify locations, depths, sizes, and materials.
• Collect and validate field measurements and attributes for design and mapping.
• Document information using GPS, GIS, and field data collection tools.
• Review records, drawings, and plans to support investigations.
• Prepare field notes, sketches, photos, and reports.
• Coordinate with owners, contractors, engineers, and project managers.
• Travel to project sites and work outdoors in varying conditions.
