Job summary

WSB is seeking a Field Technician to join our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team. This role supports engineering, surveying, and construction projects by locating underground utilities using EM locators, GPR, GPS, and vacuum excavation.

You will document data, verify locations, and map utilities to reduce project risk. You'll travel to project sites, work outdoors in varying weather, and collaborate with engineers, survey crews, and clients to ensure accurate utility information for

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• Associate degree preferred in surveying, civil engineering tech, GIS, or related field.
• 0–2 years in utility locating or field service preferred.
• Experience operating utility locating equipment and GPS data collection devices preferred.
• Must read and interpret utility maps and construction documents.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Perform subsurface utility investigations using EM locators, GPR, and other locating technologies.
• Locate, identify, mark, and document underground utilities.
• Conduct utility designation and verification per procedures and standards.
• Perform vacuum excavation and potholing to verify locations and materials.
• Collect and validate field measurements for design and mapping.
• Use GPS, GIS, and electronic data collection tools to map utility data.
• Coordinate with owners, contractors, and teams to support projects.
• Maintain safety and regulatory compliance on site.
