Job summary

City of Durham seeks an Engineering Survey and Locating Technician to locate and mark water, sewer, and storm drains to avoid conflicts in excavation areas. You will maintain locating equipment, perform GIS-based work and assist with survey data collection in field conditions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED/HiSET/TASC).
  • Two years of related experience locating utilities.
  • Valid, unrestricted North Carolina driver's license or willingness to obtain NC license within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and route daily work to perform utility locating, construction staking, and equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain locating equipment, perform routine maintenance checks, and ensure proper function of tools and vehicles.
  • Prepare and maintain routine reports, field notes, and other documentation; enter data into work order systems.
