Job summary

WSB is seeking an Untoneables Locating Technician to support utility locating operations in the field. This role focuses on accurately locating and marking underground utilities, including gas lines, with a safety-first mindset and independent outdoor work ethic.

You will read maps, operate locating equipment, document findings, and coordinate with internal teams and clients to resolve locate challenges. Daily site travel and field duties are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–4+ years of utility locating experience preferred.
• Knowledge of PE and Steel Gas lines and components.
• Knowledge in Damage Prevention.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Ability to interpret utility maps, prints, and as-built documentation.
• Ability to pass Operator Qualification modules and training.
• Familiarity with local 811 processes and utility marking requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform utility locating with emphasis on safety, accuracy, and compliance.
• Respond to locate requests within legal and client timeframes.
• Locate and mark underground utilities using APWA color standards.
• Read maps and construction plans to identify utility size, type, and location.
• Operate electronic locating equipment and field tools.
• Troubleshoot unlocatable facilities using approved methods.
• Document findings and coordinate with clients and contractors.
• Complete daily reports and required documentation in the field.
