Job summary

City of Amarillo's Traffic Field Operations unit is seeking a Signal Technician to install, maintain and repair traffic signals and related electrical equipment in all weather conditions. The role involves field work, controller programming, and ensuring safe operation of street lighting and signal systems.

The candidate will work shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays, handle emergency calls on a rotating basis, and support training of Junior Technicians.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with 1–4 years of related experience.
• Trade school training in electronics preferred, or 3 years experience in electrical field.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
• Must obtain IMSA Traffic Signals Level I.2 within one year.
• Ability to work in all weather and heavy traffic.

Responsibilities

• Receive and complete work orders for traffic signal maintenance.
• Install, repair and test traffic signals, controllers, and related equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on street lighting and signal systems.
• Respond to after-hours trouble calls on a rotating basis.
• Document daily work and training of others.
• Ensure safety around traffic and construction zones.
