Job summary

City of Garland is seeking a Traffic Signal Technician to construct, maintain, and repair traffic signals, school zones, and related communications equipment. The role includes a 24/7 emergency on-call program to ensure proper operation of the City’s traffic signals.

The position offers hands-on field work with test equipment and coordination with contractors to meet city specifications. Valid Texas driver’s license and IMSA certifications preferred.

Qualifications

  • 6 months to 1 year of advanced training past the high school level.
  • 2 years of related experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, maintain, and test various traffic signal control, school flashers, and communications equipment.
  • Operate a bucket truck up to 40 feet for signal head maintenance and repair, and for electrical service connections.
  • Locate and mark underground traffic facilities for street construction purposes.
  • Participate in 24-hour rotating emergency on-call shifts.
  • Program, install, and maintain optical switches for video encoders and decoders.
  • Collaborate with contractors to ensure intersections are built to City specifications.
