Job summary

Biltmore in Asheville, NC is seeking a Field to Table Staff II to support hydroponic greenhouse crop production for our culinary teams. You will work with leadership and Food & Beverage to coordinate needs, timelines, and costs, while providing general assistance as required.

Role focuses on sowing, monitoring plant health, harvesting and packaging, and maintaining lab data and inventory, with a schedule typical 8:30am–4:30pm. Requires basic HS diploma and willingness to obtain pesticide license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; pesticide license preferred or obtainable.
• 1 year of related experience; vegetable/fruit production/hydroponics preferred.
• Must identify signs of disease and stress in plants; recognize hydroponic system issues.
• Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook.
• Excellent guest service mindset and professional communication, both written and verbal.

Job Description

Field to Table Staff II works within a small team to assist with the production of hydroponically greenhouse grown crops for our Biltmore culinary teams. Staff works closely with program leadership and Food & Beverage teams to determine needs, yield, and coordinate production time-lines and costs. In addition, the incumbent will provide general assistance and support for leadership, the department, and company as required.

Schedule can vary, but is generally 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Essential Job Duties

• Sowing and planting of lettuces, herbs and flowers, and micro greens.
• Monitor crops for water needs, nutrient deficiencies, pests, diseases, general care needs.
• Harvest and package crops with discernment for product quality
• Understand and comply with all Food Safety requirements and guidelines
• Deliver crops in timely manner and in premium condition.
• Assist team members, customers, and guests in a courteous and professional manner.
• Collect monthly water samples and prepare for shipment to lab
• Accurately enter lab results into Nutrient Calculator Spreadsheet
• Accurately dose raceways as per NCS recommendations.
• Inventory nutrients for ordering

Qualifications

• High school diploma required. Additional education, training, and/or certification(s) preferred. Must be able to obtain NC pesticide applicator's license.
• One (1) year of related experience. Equivalent combination of education/experience may be considered. Preferred candidate will have experience in vegetable/fruit production and hydroponic production techniques.
• Should be able to identify signs of disease and stress in plants
• Should be able to recognize functionality issues in a variety of hydroponic systems
• Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook
• Demonstrated commitment to delivery of world class internal/external guest service.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; able to convey information clearly, concisely. Represents Biltmore professionally with internal/external guests.
• Excellent planning, time management, and organizational skills; prioritizes work, and can adapt.
• Proactive, exercises good judgment; troubleshoots and problem solves.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to repetitively lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to kneel, stoop, bend, and reach overhead and below.
• Works in greenhouse environment and outdoors in all types of weather with fluctuations in temperature and conditions; exposure to dust, dirt, pollen, chemicals, and particulates.
• Manual dexterity with the ability to safely operate hand and powered gardening and harvest tools, farm tractor with loader, and standard transmission vehicles.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
