Job description

Mountain Engineering is seeking Field Technicians to support a utility pole system hardening project throughout the North Valley, Sierra, and Central Valley regions. This position will work closely with construction crews, property owners, and utility project teams to coordinate field activities and ensure completed work meets project requirements.

Position Responsibilities
  • Support utility pole inspection and system hardening activities in the field.
  • File and coordinate construction permits as required for project work.
  • Contact homeowners and property owners to coordinate access and construction activities.
  • Coordinate and schedule construction crews to complete pole hardening work.
  • Provide crews with the information and direction needed to complete assigned work.
  • Perform field audits and inspections of completed work to verify quality and compliance with project requirements.
  • Document field activities, project progress, and completed work using Survey123 and ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Travel throughout assigned project areas, including rural and remote locations.
  • Communicate effectively with homeowners, construction crews, utility representatives, and project management.
  • Identify field issues and coordinate solutions to keep work progressing safely and efficiently.
Project Work

The project involves supporting the installation of system hardening measures around utility poles. Work may include coordinating construction crews performing work within an 11-foot radius of utility poles, including the placement and pouring of road material and treatment of the surrounding area.

This is projected for a 3-month project with work primarily located throughout the North Valley, Sierra, and Central Valley regions. The position requires frequent travel and the ability to work independently in rural and remote areas.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience using ArcGIS Survey123 and Field Maps.
  • Ability to file and coordinate UFA construction permits.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Comfortable communicating with homeowners and property owners in the field.
  • Ability to coordinate and direct construction crews.
  • Familiarity with construction equipment and construction activities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple field assignments.
  • Ability to safely drive in rural and remote areas and navigate varying road conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors and travel throughout assigned project regions.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience working on utility, vegetation management, construction, or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working around utility poles or within electric utility rights-of-way.
  • Familiarity with utility permitting and construction processes.
  • Previous field inspection or quality-control experience.
  • Experience coordinating contractors or construction crews.
