Job summary

Lumen Technologies is hiring a Field Technician I to support asset management, deliveries, and provisioning of fiber and network equipment. The role includes testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining DS0 through OC192 services, with emphasis on keeping the network reliable and ready for AI‑driven workloads.

The position requires learning systems, updating logs, and coordinating with teams to ensure timely repairs. Local CA availability and on‑call duties may apply.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or up to 2 years relevant job experience including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
• Entry-level technician with knowledge in two or more technician disciplines such as Transmission, Switching, TCP/IP, or Outside Plant.
• Ability to locate fiber optic cable and understand right-of-way and As-Builts.
• Must maintain site security and cleanliness; PC skills and proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office; quick learning of corporate databases.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, replaces defective parts, and coordinates restoration to maintain service integrity.
• Assists in installation, provisioning, testing, and maintenance of Next Generation technologies across multiple network layers.
• Uses standard software/hardware tools to locate and protect outside plant facilities.
• Performs level 1 preventive maintenance on network and critical infrastructure including HVAC and high‑voltage systems.
• Updates installation records and trouble tickets with detailed status and reports to management.
